Official | Hamburg sign Patson Daka, another new addition set to be unveiled shortly
Zambian football sensation Patson Daka has officially completed his move to German Bundesliga outfit Hamburger SV, signing on a free transfer after his contract with Leicester City expired. The 27-year-old Chipolopolo striker, whose market value is estimated at €3 million, finalized the deal on July 22, 2026, and has already joined his new teammates at their training camp in Austria. This transfer represents a significant opportunity for Daka to revitalize his career and make a substantial impact in the German top flight. Daka's signing has been met with enthusiasm by Hamburger SV management, who view him as a crucial addition to their attacking lineup. Kathleen Krüger, HSV Board Member for Sport, stated, “In signing Patson, we've specifically strengthened ourselves at the center-forward position. With him, we're gaining a center forward who meets our expectations quite clearly.” Sporting director Claus Costa further elaborated, highlighting Daka's key attributes: “Patson brings many qualities that are essential to our style of play. He combines energy, speed, and deep runs of the highest intensity.” Daka himself expressed his eagerness, saying, “I'm happy to be here now and can't wait to get started. I'm a passionate and energetic player whose job is to score goals.” The move to Hamburg sees Daka return to a top-tier league after Leicester City's recent relegation to the English third tier. During his five years with Leicester, Daka scored 22 league goals and became the club's all-time leading scorer in European competition with six goals. Before his stint in England, Daka rose to prominence at Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg, where he netted 54 goals in 82 league appearances and was named Austrian Bundesliga Player of the Season in 2020/21. His impressive track record and international experience, including 22 goals in 57 appearances for the Zambian national team, make him a valuable asset for HSV.
