Nkana Football Club, one of Zambia's most decorated football institutions, has announced the retirement of club legend Ronald “Sate Sate” Kampamba from active play. This marks the second time the prolific striker has hung up his boots, but this occasion is coupled with an exciting new chapter as he steps into the role of strikers' coach for the Kitwe-based giants. The announcement, made by the club on Thursday, signifies a strategic move to integrate experienced former players into the technical bench, aiming to harness their deep understanding of the game and Nkana's unique football philosophy. Kampamba, affectionately known as “Sate Sate” by the Nkana faithful, has been a cornerstone of the club's success for over a decade. His career, which began in Nkana's youth ranks, saw him emerge as one of the Zambian Super League's most feared attackers, twice clinching the golden boot in consecutive seasons (2012 and 2013). His clinical finishing, tireless work ethic, and leadership on the field earned him widespread admiration and played a pivotal role in Nkana securing multiple league titles and other domestic honours, including two Super League titles, four Charity Shields, and one ABSA Cup. This transition is seen as a natural progression for a player who has given so much to Zambian football, allowing him to continue contributing to the sport he loves from a different vantage point.
