UPND’s Malambo wins Kafue East seat
The political landscape of Kafue District has experienced a notable shift following the official announcement of the 2026 general election results, with United Party for National Development (UPND) candidate Buumba Malambo clinching the Kafue East Constituency parliamentary seat. Returning Officer Daffi Munganga declared Ms. Malambo as the Member of Parliament-elect at Kafue Day School, the designated totalling centre for the constituency, after she amassed a commanding 12,750 votes. Ms. Malambo, a prominent figure locally known for her extensive grassroots engagement and humanitarian background, comfortably outperformed her closest challenger, Daniel Sichilongo of the National Reformation and Progressive United Party (NRPUP), who finished with 7,151 votes. The parliamentary race in Kafue East had generated considerable interest across Lusaka Province, drawing attention to local development issues, infrastructure needs, and the broader political momentum of the ruling party in peri-urban areas. The newly elected legislator transitions to national politics after building a strong reputation through local governance and community activism within the district. Her campaign strongly emphasized continuity in developmental projects, improved rural electrification, feeder roads, and enhanced social welfare delivery for residents spread across vast wards ranging from Shantumbu to Chiawa. Supporters have hailed her victory as a testament to effective grassroots mobilization and consistent community service. As the Electoral Commission of Zambia continues to process and release final tallies from various constituencies nationwide, the outcome in Kafue East reinforces the ruling party's footprint in key strategic districts. Stakeholders and constituents now turn their attention toward the implementation of campaign promises, with expectations high for accelerated infrastructural growth and responsive constituency governance under the newly constituted National Assembly.
