The Zambia Police Service has placed security agencies on high alert following credible intelligence reports indicating that specific individuals and groups are orchestrating plans to disrupt the upcoming presidential inauguration ceremony. Inspector General of Police Graphel Musamba announced the security warning, emphasizing that law enforcement will act decisively against any unlawful processions, assemblies, or demonstrations intended to mar the national event. President-elect Hakainde Hichilema is scheduled to take his oath of office following the conclusion of the electoral cycle, a milestone meant to symbolize democratic continuity and national unity. Speaking in Lusaka, Inspector General Musamba acknowledged that while Article 21 of the Zambian Constitution guarantees freedom of assembly and association, these rights are not absolute and must be exercised strictly within the boundaries of the law. Security assessments have revealed coordinated efforts to incite public unrest and challenge the legitimacy of the upcoming proceedings. Consequently, security forces have intensified patrols and intelligence-led operations across key government installations and potential flashpoint areas to preempt any security breaches. Authorities have strongly cautioned citizens against allowing themselves to be manipulated by political actors seeking to cause civil disobedience or destruction of property. The police have made it clear that anyone found participating in, organizing, or financing illegal demonstrations will face the full wrath of the law. The emphasis remains on preserving public safety and ensuring that the peaceful transfer and continuation of power proceed without intimidation or disruption. As the inauguration date approaches, business owners and ordinary residents in the capital and other major towns have expressed mixed feelings, oscillating between a desire for uninterrupted economic activities and underlying political tensions.
