KELVIN KAUNDA VOWS TO SERVE LIMA FOR ONLY ONE TERM
Newly elected Lima Constituency Member of Parliament Kelvin Kaunda has set a distinct tone for his tenure by vowing to serve for only one five-year term. Mr. Kaunda, who recently secured his seat following the electoral processes, stated that his decision is rooted in a desire to prioritize aggressive grassroots development and immediate community impact over entrenched political ambition. Speaking on his legislative priorities, Mr. Kaunda highlighted that Lima, being a newly established constituency emerging from recent delimitation processes, faces immense developmental deficits. He stressed that critical sectors such as healthcare, education, road infrastructure, water supply, and sanitation require urgent, focused intervention to uplift the living standards of local residents. Among his foremost commitments, the lawmaker pledged to relentlessly advocate for the establishment of at least a first-level hospital within the constituency to ease the burden on residents who currently travel long distances for medical care. Additionally, he noted that local schools require urgent rehabilitation and modern learning resources, while women and youth empowerment initiatives remain central to his short-term agenda. Political analysts across Lusaka have observed that self-imposed term limits are rare within the Zambian political landscape, where MPs frequently seek successive mandates. Mr. Kaunda's declaration has therefore sparked considerable public debate, challenging the conventional approach to political office by framing public service as a strict, time-bound contract dedicated exclusively to tangible results. As he begins his parliamentary journey, residents and stakeholders will closely watch whether this ambitious blueprint can be effectively translated into concrete infrastructure. Mr. Kaunda maintains that his office will not be treated as an end in itself, insisting that his accountability to the electorate supersedes any personal career longevity.
