PPP happy with Ndola-Mufulira road rehabilitation works
The rehabilitation of the vital Ndola-Mufulira road is maintaining steady momentum, according to Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Technical Committee Vice Chairperson Dr. Richard Banda. Speaking during a routine monitoring assessment, Dr. Banda highlighted that infrastructure development remains a central pillar of the government's economic agenda, noting that the project is progressing well within expected timelines. The road network plays an indispensable role in linking major industrial hubs on the Copperbelt Province. Executed under the Public-Private Partnership financing framework, the infrastructure undertaking aims to alleviate historical transport challenges that have plagued motorists, traders, and mining firms for years. The route serves as a major artery for the movement of heavy commercial goods, agricultural produce, and mining equipment, directly supporting economic activities between Ndola, Mufulira, and surrounding border areas. Dr. Banda emphasized that the government is fully committed to leveraging private sector partnerships to accelerate infrastructure delivery without overstraining public coffers. By utilizing the PPP model, public resources are complemented by private capital, ensuring that long-neglected trunk roads are upgraded to modern bituminous standards alongside essential ancillary facilities such as toll plazas and weighbridges. Local transporters and business owners have welcomed the visible progress on site, pointing out that improved road conditions will significantly reduce vehicle maintenance costs and transit times. Copperbelt stakeholders have long decried the previous state of disrepair, which hampered commercial efficiency and posed safety risks to motorists navigating the heavily trafficked corridor. As works continue, oversight bodies have urged contractors to maintain high engineering standards and adhere strictly to project delivery schedules. The successful execution of the Ndola-Mufulira road initiative is expected
