
Eight Workers Injured in Chambishi Furnace Explosion, Two Indians Dead
A tragic industrial accident at Yellow Stripes, a scrap metal company in Chambishi, Kalulushi District, has left eight workers severely injured and claimed the lives of two Indian nationals. The explosion, believed to have been caused by overloading scrap metal into a furnace, occurred at the facility, prompting immediate medical attention for the victims. This devastating incident underscores the critical importance of stringent safety protocols in industrial settings. Four of the injured employees were rushed to Kitwe Teaching Hospital, where General Surgeon Dr. Encok Soko reported that three are in critical condition within the Intensive Care Unit. Dr. Soko detailed the severity of their injuries, noting that the four male patients suffered mixed burns ranging between 75 and 90 percent, encompassing both superficial and deep tissue damage. The remaining four injured workers are receiving treatment at the Royal Medical Centre, where their conditions are fortunately reported as stable. Authorities have swiftly launched investigations into the explosion to ascertain the full circumstances leading to this catastrophe. Labour and safety officials are expected to conduct a thorough inspection of the Yellow Stripes facility, a crucial step in preventing future occurrences and ensuring accountability.
