Over 760 thousand farmers receive redeeming codes
The Zambian government has reported significant headway in its agricultural preparations, disclosing that 761,666 small-scale farmers out of a targeted 1,024,434 have successfully received their electronic redemption codes. The update was delivered through a ministerial statement in Parliament, shedding light on the ongoing rollout of the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) designed to enhance productivity and streamline input distribution across the country. Under the modernized electronic voucher system, registered farmers receive unique redemption codes that allow them to access subsidized agricultural inputs, such as seeds and fertilizers, directly from government-accredited agro-dealers. Ministry officials have emphasized that this digital framework is crucial for curbing historical challenges such as fraud, administrative bottlenecks, and the proliferation of ghost beneficiaries that previously plagued manual distribution systems. Despite the positive figures showing that more than three-quarters of a million farmers have obtained their codes, agricultural authorities have noted a variance between code distribution and actual input collection. Farmers who have received their credentials are being strongly encouraged to visit accredited dealers promptly to redeem their packages. Timely redemption is viewed as vital to ensuring that rural households can prepare their fields adequately ahead of the primary planting window, avoiding last-minute logistics rushes. Furthermore, the distribution exercise comes amid heightened awareness regarding regional weather patterns and climate variability, with agricultural extension officers advising smallholders to factor local forecasts into their seed selection. Farmers in regions facing potential dry spells or erratic rainfall are being guided toward early-maturing seed varieties, while those in high-rainfall zones are accommodated accordingly. District agricultural offices have also stepped up security awareness campa
