ZESCO assures nation of stable power supply.
Lusaka, Zambia – ZESCO Limited, Zambia's national power utility, has moved to reassure the nation of a stable electricity supply, declaring that no nationwide load shedding is currently expected. This announcement comes as a significant relief to Zambian households and industries, which have historically grappled with erratic power supply, often leading to disruptions in daily life and economic activities. The utility attributes this positive outlook to a combination of enhanced generation capacity and strategic partnerships. In a statement released yesterday, ZESCO Managing Director, Mr. Victor Mundende, highlighted the utility's proactive measures in bolstering its power infrastructure. "We have significantly increased our generation output across our various power stations, particularly leveraging improved water levels at our major hydro-electric dams," Mundende stated. He further elaborated on the benefits of ongoing maintenance and upgrades, which have optimized the efficiency and reliability of existing plants, ensuring maximum output during peak demand periods. Beyond internal generation, ZESCO has also underscored the importance of strengthened regional partnerships. These collaborations, often involving power purchase agreements with neighbouring countries, provide a crucial buffer against potential domestic shortfalls, especially during periods of low rainfall or unexpected plant outages. This diversified approach to power sourcing is a cornerstone of ZESCO's strategy to guarantee energy security for the nation, fostering a more resilient grid. The assurance from ZESCO is particularly pertinent given Zambia's reliance on hydropower, which makes the country susceptible to climatic variations. Years of insufficient rainfall have previously led to severe power deficits, necessitating extensive load shedding programs that crippled businesses and inconvenienced millions. The current declaration suggests a more robust position, potentially indicating successf
